Because Your Pet Deserves a Vacation Too!
Katie is the owner of Sandy Paws Pet Sitting. She grew up in NYC spending many school breaks and parts of summer vacation in Ponce Inlet, FL, an area where she dreamed of living near one day. She is a life long dog lover and grew up with Golden Retrievers. As a child and teenager, she would envision living near the beach in Florida with a healthy and active lifestyle surrounded by dogs, so she made it happen.
Her first job in high school was at a Veterinary Clinic in Hopewell, NJ. After high school she attended West Virginia University for two years. Being away at college made her miss her dogs too much, and she found class too boring to sit still through. She would rather borrow someone’s Labrador Retriever and take them hiking all day than attend a lecture hall. In 2012 she came home from school and got a job at St.Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center in North Branch, NJ. That was a life changing experience and gave her a soft spot for shelter dogs but most of all Pit Bulls and senior dogs. She also gained experience with training and behavior modification.
During that time Katie adopted her soul dog Binx , an American Staffordshire Terrier, and her 20lb black cat, Mr.Ruger.
After moving to Florida in 2013 she worked at Love My Dog Resort in St.Petersburg while fostering and volunteering for Passion4Pits rescue. In 2019 Katie began calling Volusia County home. She worked as a personal trainer and physical therapy aide while living in a condo. After moving into a house beachside in Ormond with a fully fenced yard in 2026, she is fulfilling her top passion- caring for animals!
Katie says the best part about being a pet sitter is getting to borrow and experience all of the different breeds and personality quirks. From Chihuahuas to Rottweilers, to Pits and Poodles, she loves ‘em all! She also loves cats and coincidentally moved into a cat colony she cares for outside. Katie knows pets are family (often better), and should be treated accordingly. She will treat your fur babies as if they’re her own, and probably give them a new nickname or make up a song about them during their stay. She is experienced with all demographics of dogs (even Hurricane Katrina survivors) and comfortable with all breeds and personalities. Katie boards dogs in her home, offers in home pet sitting, drop in’s for walks (or runs!) and companionship.
